BJD Yatra held at U’kote on concluding day
Umarkote: The Nabarangpur district unit of the BJD conducted a Jan Sampark Padayatra here on Sunday, the concluding day of the party’s 10-day Yatra. The Padayatra, which was attended by Commerce and Transport Minister Ramesh Majhi, local MlA Subash Gond and Rajya Sabha Member Bhupinder Singh among others, moved through the main thoroughfares of the town and culminated at the Kalyana Mandapa. The leaders talked about various pro-people schemes undertaken by the State Government. They too raised voices against the Central Government alleging neglects.
Int’l Day for Girl Child observed in K’jhar
Anandpur: The International Day for the Girl Child was observed at different places in Keonjhar and Karanjia on behalf of the CYSD Plan Project, Karanjia on Sunday. The day was observed at the Government SSD Higher Secondary School, Raidiha, Baitarani High School, Dalapaka and Droopadi Girls’ High School, Nishaposi. Karanjia Bar Association senior member Anupama Kar as chief speaker spoke about the significance of the day. He stressed on the need for sensitising girls on the legal rights and services meant for them. Students also held an awareness rally holding placards and shouting slogans on protection of girl child. CYSD Plan Project district coordinator Maheswar Chhatoi wanted everyone to make concerted efforts for development of girls’ educational, health and creativity.
Karate winner felicitated by her Sunabeda school
Sunabeda: The VS Vidyalaya here felicitated its Class XII student Payal Baral for bringing international acclaim to the school by winning a silver medal in the 8th Commonwealth Karate Championship held in New Delhi from September 18 to 20. At a programme, school Principal HK Seth briefed about Payal’s achievement and advised other students to follow her. Notably, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had felicitated Payal recently. She is scheduled to be felicitated by Governor Dr SC Jamir Nov 5 in Bhubaneswar. Payal would participate in the World Karate Championship to be held at Jakarta, Indonesia in November.
