Nihar Ray, BCJD leaders join BJP
Rourkela: Former Rourkela DCC president Nihar Ray along with many other Congress leaders and certain student leaders of Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) joined the BJP here on Sunday in the presence of Union Minister Jual Oram and Rourkela MlA Dilip Ray at Kalyani, the residence of Dilip Ray. Earlier, Nihar Ray and other leaders came in a huge procession. He said he can now work freely to strengthen the saffron party against the “corrupt BJD”. On Saturday, many BCJD leaders including Ankus Burma had resigned from the BJD.
Raghurajpur to become model village
Puri: Crafts village Raghurajpur would be made a model village, said Union Minister of Tourism and Culture Mahesh Sharma on Saturday. Union Minister of Petroleum Dharmendra Pradhan and Puri district officials were present during Sharma’s visit to the village. Sharma said `10 crore has already been allocated and more would be provided for development of the rare art of Pattachitra and to give it global publicity.
World Water Day held in city
Bhubaneswar: The Centre for Child and Women Development (CCWD) with support of Practical Action & Bernard Van leer Foundation organised a community awareness programme on the World Water Day at Masjid Colony, Malisahi in Ward-41 here on Sunday. CCWD secretary Sadasiv Swain said water is life and for sustainable development of water, role of community is highly essential. Among others, Pravas Samantary, Mamata Singh and Debabrata Mahunta spoke on the occasion.
Earthquake awareness drive held at KIIT
Bhubaneswar: The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) 3rd Battalion, Mundali, in association with the KIIT University conducted a community awareness programme, a mock drill and an exhibition on earthquake at the KIIT campus here on Friday. NDRF Battalion Commandant MK Yadav led the mock drill and community awareness programme. KIIT Vice-Chancellor Prof PP Mathur, SDMA CGM Dr Kl Mishra and Sarat Sahoo from the IMD, Bhubaneswar, were present. The Commandant and other officers spoke about various rescue and relief operations before and after earthquake. In the mock drill, the team demonstrated rescue of victims trapped in building collapse.
