Hundreds attend Angul Bird Day meet
Talcher: The National Bird Day was celebrated by NGO Nature Environment and Wildlife Society (NEWS) at Bedasasan High School in Angul. Different competitions among the school students, an awareness rally and a seminar were held. Among others, district honorary wildlife warden Prasanna Kumar Behera, Bantala forest range officer Girish Chandra Panda and school headmaster Chitaranjan Parida spoke. Hundreds of students, teachers and bird lovers attended.
Alaka Mohavidyalaya hosts annual fest
Jagatsinghpur: The Alaka Mohavidyalaya at Biridi in Jagatsinghpur district hosted its annual function on Monday. Mohavidyala Management Committee president and former MlA Bishnu Das inaugurated the event while student’s union president Kiranamyee Nayak presided over the function, which was held with the joint efforts of the college’s Plus-3 students’ union and Plus-2 cultural association. Student’s body advisor Rudra Narayan Mishra and secretary Satyajit Jena spoke on the occasion.Various cultural activities were followed after the meeting. Among others Mohavidyalaya Principal Basanti Singh and Plus-2 Principal Banamali Behera were present.
Truck driver dies of heart attack at Paradip
Jagatsinghpur: A truck driver, Sanjay Kumar Nadi, hailing from Kendrapada district’s Pattamundai area died here on Monday following a cardiac arrest. Nadi felt chest pain while taking rest after a driving from Chandikhol. He was rushed to the Biju Memorial Hospital where he died. Members of the Truck Owners’ Association and Drivers’ Association have condoled his untimely death.
2 held demanding extortion money in JSpur
Jagatsinghpur: The Tirtol police on Monday arrested and court-forwarded two antisocials, Pyarimohan Das alias Pintu and Toffan Parija, from Sarala Road on the charge of demanding extortion money from owner of the Urmila Fashion shop at the Sarala Market near Tirtol. The two had attacked the owner as he refused to give extortion. He was injured and undergoing treatment at a hospital.
