2 held in tusker killing case; 4 still at large
Rourkela: The Gurundia police in Sundargarh district on Sunday arrested and court-forwarded two of the six absconding persons in the case of killing of two tuskers and selling their tusks way back in November 2008. Though the six accused had been arrested and forwarded to court in 2008, they were granted bail after a short period of imprisonment. But they didn’t appear before the court on the scheduled dates and were at large. The police are now searching for the four absconders.
Regional journalists’ body office inaugurated
Athagarh: An office of the Anchalika Sambadika Sangha of Tangi-Choudwar was inaugurated at the premises of Abhiram Paramhans Ashram near the Gandhi Chowk in Choudwar on the occasion of the Ganesh Chaturthi on Friday. Journalist-cum-social activist Basanta Kumar Sahani inaugurated the new office and requested the association members to introduce a memorial award for Sadhu Sundar Das, editor of Kujibarpatra published from the region. The programme, coordinated by Satyabrata Das, was attended by journalists Sanjeev Tiwari, Naresh Sahoo, Trailokya Behera, Padmalava Baral, Santosh Khuntia, Gyanaranjan Sahani, Kalandi Prasad Sahoo, Sailendra Patnaik and Dinesh Das, among others.
Moharana’s sand art earns public applause
Brahmapur: Well-known sand artist of Surada in Ganjam district Satyanarayan Moharana sculpted a sand image on the Swayatta Sasan Divas (local Self Government Day) which is being highly appreciated by the visitors. A large number of people, including students, are daily visiting the artwork. There is a public demand that the Government encourage Moharana with financial assistance like the world-famous sand artist Sudarshan Pattnaik.
JSpur ambulance driver dies of cardiac arrest
Jagatsinghpur: Headquarters hospital ambulance driver Debendra Patra, a resident of Santola village in Itapada panchayat, died following cardiac arrest on Saturday, Returning after attending a service call, he was resting in drivers’ restroom in hospital premises when he suffered from chest pain and became unconscious. later, he died in the hospital during treatment.
