Woman killed in tusker attack in S’garh
Rourkela: One Phulamani Munda (45) of Taladihi village under the Barsuan forest range in Sundargarh district was reportedly killed in a tusker attack in the Taladihi jungle on Wednesday. Phulamani along with others had gone to the jungle to collect mushroom when a tusker attacked them. While others managed to escape, Phulamani fell prey to the tusker attack. Forest officials said `2 lakh would be paid to her family as compensation.
N’rangpur police ASI caught taking bribe
Nabarangpur: Batakrushna Gouda, ASI of Police, Tentulikhunti PS, Nabarangpur, was arrested by the Vigilance police for having taken bribe of `7,000 and further demanding and accepting bribe of `3,000 on Thursday. Gouda was caught by Vigilance officers while accepting `3,000 from Sheik Ismail of Gadabaguda to release his auto, which was involved in an accident case.
K’handi tehsil clerk held taking bribe
Bhawanipatna: The Vigilance police on Wednesday arrested one Himadri Panda, a Clerk of Kalahandi district’s Madanpur Rampur tehsil, on the charge of taking bribe of `1,000 for processing a GPF bill. Acting on complainant lodged by one Subash Chandra Pal of Gouda Karlakhunta under the same tehsil, Vigilance sleuths laid a trap and caught Panda red-handed while taking `1,000 from the complainant.
Boy, 2 bullocks die in lightning in S’garh
Rourkela: A boy and two bullocks were killed as lightning struck them at two separate places in Sundargarh district on Wednesday afternoon.
lightning struck Prashant Kujur (15) and his friend Amresh Sawa of Balishankara village while they were going by a motorcycle. While Amresh was saved, Prashant died on the spot. In another incident, lightening struck two bullocks while they were standing under a tree at Ghutupada village under the Subdega block. The bullocks died on the spot.
lineman electrocuted in Kendrapada
Kendrapada: Gouranga Charan Sahu, who was working as a lineman-C under ENZEN, was electrocuted on Tuesday night while he was going to charge electricity from an a transformer at Alijanga. He died while undergoing treatment at a private nursing home in Cuttack. His co-workers staged a road blockade by keeping the body in front of the ENZEN office at Garapur demanding compensation and job for the deceased’s wife.
One killed, ANOTHER hurt in K’pada road mishaps
Kendrapada: Rabindra Sethy (55) of Gulnagar village, who was returning on Tuesday night to his house after trading fish, died in a road mishap near Gulnagar bridge on the Cuttack-Chandabali road as an unknown vehicle dashed with him. In another mishap, Panchu Hansada, an APR constable, sustained critical injuries when a Maruti car collided with his bike on Wednesday afternoon near Maruti Chowk. locals staged a road blockade on the Cuttack-Chandabali road protesting lack of safety on the road.
