Killer of fellow villager gets death sentence
Kendrapada: The Additional District Judge of Jajpur on Friday awarded death sentence to one Sudam Mallick of Naraharipur under Jajpur district’s Binjharpur block for killing a fellow villager over a family dispute. Sudam attacked Niranjan Mallick with a spade following which he died on January 22, 2012.
Murderer gets life imprisonment
Baleswar: The District and Sessions Judge on Friday sentenced a murder accused to life imprisonment and penalty of Rs5,000, in default three more months’ term. Harish Chandra Barik had killed Santosh Rout by slitting his throat due to old feuds. The court pronounced the judgment after cross-examining nine witnesses.
Two Bonei forest officials die in road mishap
Rourkela: Two forest officials of the Bonei Forest Division died in a road accident on Friday night. The Tikayatpali police sent the bodies of Tarani Sen Sahu (26) of Siridiha and laxman Sahu (26) of Narendra village both under Bonei block for autopsy on Saturday. The two fell into a roadside drain at Bhimghat as their vehicle skidded off the road.
RTBA jubilee celebrations kick off
Rourkela: The foundation day and silver jubilee celebrations of the Rourkela Tax Bar Association (RTBA) kick-started here on Friday with fanfare under the leadership of RTBA president KK Panda. On the opening day, many senior RTBA members were present. The RTBA secretary presented the detailed activities to be undertaken during the silver jubilee celebration and urged for cooperation of all members for its grand success. Woman dies in road mishap in R’gada
Rayagada: A 50-year old woman died on the spot when a truck hit her near Kasturinagar here on Saturday afternoon. The police arrested the truck driver M Anil Kumar and forwarded him to court.
