Gajapati CPM protests rising crimes
Parlakhemundi: led by its secretary l Ramagopal Rao, CPI(M) Gajapati district members submitted a memorandum to the Collector protesting against the rising incidents of murder, loot, corruption and atrocities on women in the State. Among others, AG Peraya, Helidi Chinchani and D Sundara Rao met the Collector.
ABVP demands +2 admissions in women’s colleges
Balangir: Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Sunday staged a demonstration in front of the district Collectorate here demanding admission in Plus Two Science Colleges at Balangir, Jeypore and Bahawanipatna. “We demand admission in Plus Two science in the women’s college of Balangir, failing which we will close all private residential Plus Two colleges,” said ABVP president Hitesh Kumar Sahu.
Jagatsinghpur BJP celebrates foundation day
Jagatsinghpur: The BJP district unit observed the party’s foundation day here on Saturday with district president Upendra Nath Biswal inaugurating the celebration and addressing the party workers. He cited the instances of the BJP’s contributions in building the nation. Among others, party district leaders Soubhagya Mohaanty, Amita Das, Subash Mohanty, lata Das, Purushottam Pradhan and Sanjay Bastia also spoke on the occasion.
CongSCCell holds meeting at JSpur
Jagatsinghpur: The district Congress SC Cell held a workers’ meet here on Saturday with its president Debendra Mallick presiding over it. Several issues relating to SC and Dalit people’s sufferings were discussed and the meeting resolved that the BJD Government has failed to protect the dignity of Dalits. Among others, Congress State SC Cell president Ripu Nath Seth, PCC treasurer Chiranjiv Biswal, former Minister Rabi Sethy, former MlAs Bijay Nayak, Kailash Mallick and lalatendu Mohapatra and former ZP president Nata Barik attended the meeting.
Tirtol MlA’s wife passes away
Jagatsinghpur: Tirtol MlA Rabindranath Bhoi’s wife Arati Das (42) died at a private hospital in New Delhi on Friday night following kidney failure. She had been admitted in the hospital two weeks ago for kidney transplant. Her body was brought to her native Balia village for cremation.
Kallolo concludes at Jagatsinghpur
Jagatsinghpur: The five-day-long Zilla Mohatsava Kallolo-2013 organised here by the District Council of Culture concluded on Friday. Attending the valedictory function as the chief guest, Agriculture Minister Debi Prasad Mishra highlighted the rich and vibrant tradition of the district in the fields of art, culture and literature and its contribution during the freedom movement. Among others, local MlA Bishnu Charan Das, Balikuda MlA Prashant Muduli and eminent writer Pratibha Ray also spoke on the occasion. A souvenir titled Adipatra was also released.
BHEl security man commits suicide
Jagatsinghpur: Debendra Barik, who was working as a security guard in BHEl company in the proposed IOCl plant site at Paradip, committed suicide on Saturday. Preliminary police probe indicated that he consumed deadly poison.
