200 visually-impaired get eyes in S'garh

PNS

When 57-year-old Anupama Mitra, wife of SK Mitra, an RSP employee, died of a sudden cardiac arrest on September 8 last, her family members decided to keep her alive through the eyes of two visually-impaired persons.

They approached Ispat Drusthi Daan Eye Bank of Rourkela Steel Plant’s Ispat General Hospital (IGH) and expressed their desire to donate the eyes of late Mitra. The corneas of her eyes were removed and sent to Bhubaneswar on the same day and later they were transplanted in the eyes of two visually impaired persons.

It is worth mentioning here that since its inception in April 2014, Ispat Drusthi Daan Eye Bank has lighted up the lives of more than 200 visually impaired persons.  Notably, the eye bank has been established by the RSP in association with Drusthi Daan Eye Bank of Bhubaneswar.
