At least 20 passengers were injured, five of them seriously, when a mishap happened involving two passenger buses and an educational institution bus on NH-5 near Tangi, 20 km from here, on Monday.
The five seriously injured passengers were shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital here while the other injured passengers were discharged after first aid at a local facility.
Police said a passenger bus travelling towards Cuttack from Chandikhol hit a local educational institution bus near the Tangi petrol pump and it swerved dangerously to hit another static passenger bus parked inside the petrol pump premises. While the educational institution bus, which fortunately had no students in it, was badly damaged, the two passenger buses fell into a 15-feet roadside gorge injuring the occupants in them.
The onlookers and petrol pump staff rescued the injured passengers from the buses and made arrangements with the police to shift them to the hospitals. The police seized all the three buses and began investigating into the incident after registering a case.
