2-yr-old polio-hit girl ditched in Sundergarh

In yet another shocking incident in Sundargarh district, a two-year-old polio-affected girl was found lying abandoned in front of a couple’s house at a village under Rajgangpur block on Monday.

The matter came to the fore after one Vijay Dungdung of Bihaband village verbally informed the landiberna police outpost that he and his wife found a polio-affected girl creeping on their verandah about 10 days ago.

The police soon informed the Child line, Rourkela about the girl. The Child line authorities have consented to take the child into their custody on Tuesday.

The Dungdung couple said they had also found a Horlicks bottle with the child. They kept the child with them thinking that her parents might come to take her. When nobody turned up after nine days, they verbally informed the police about the girl, the couple said.

“We have talked to the Child line, Rourkela. They have assured us to take the child on Tuesday for upbringing,” said lanjibera outpost ASI TC Nayak.

Notably, a newborn girl had been found on the Birmitrapur-Kuanrmunda roadside four days ago. She was admitted in the Rourkela Government Hospital.
