A 31-year-old man committed suicide by consuming poison, reportedly out of frustration after failing in a love relationship. The deceased, Jayant Behera, was a resident of Anko village under the Rupsa police station. He had left a suicide note mentioning the reason of taking the extreme step.
Police said that Behera was in a love relationship with a girl of Mirigimundi village for some years. But the family members of either side didn’t approve of their relationship and the girl married elsewhere.
Unable to bear the separation, Behera consumed pesticide. He was first admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) Baleswar and then taken to the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, where he succumbed. The police started an investigation after registering a case of unnatural death.
In yet another incident, Manoj Mandal (36) of Jalasahoria village in Bhograi area committed suicide by hanging self. He too was depressed after he encountered health issues.
