Police on Saturday arrested two employees of the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) for their alleged involvement in the pig iron theft from the plant.
The arrested employees had hand in glove with some pig iron buyers to lift excess material over their invoice quantity.
Sources said, about three weeks back, crime wing of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) had lodged a complaint in Tangerpalli police station in the city alleging that excess quantity of pig iron were fraudulently taken by some buyers in connivance with some RSP employees.
Keeping a close watch on the movements of loaded pig irons, CISF personnel came to know that some of the trucks after weighment are again going to loading point and loading excess quantity over their challan quantity before they come out from the plant premises.
The loaded vehicles, as per the norm, should move towards the exit gate of RSP after weighment. Their movment inside the plant does not comeunder the scrutiny of security officials.
The CISF officials reportedly had intercepted a truck, belonged to one Bajrangi Traders, which had loaded extra quantity, after its weighment, following which they had lodged a complaint in Tangerpalli police station.
“During investigation, we came to know that the loaded vehicles were allegedly returning to the loading points and reloading materials with support of some RSP officials. We have arrested two persons. Further investigation is on,” said SP Uma Shankar Dash.
