Jayanta Kumar Mallick, Junior Clerk, and Premanjana Swain, Data Entry Operator, of the office of Drugs Inspector, Ganjam Range 1, Brahmapur were arrested on Thursday for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000.
The complainant in the case, who is manager of a medicine store, had alleged before the Vigilance that for issue of order for change of site of his medicine shop, the accused were demanding the bribe from him.
A trap was laid on Thursday wherein Mallick and Swain were caught red-handed inside the office room of Mallick. The complainant handed over the bribe money to Swain as per direction of Mallick and Swain handed over the same to Mallick. The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of the duo.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches were conducted on the rented residential house of Mallick at 10th line, Gajapati Nagar, Brahmapur, his office room and rest room of Swain.
