Two Odisha girls have set an example by choosing the pilot service in metro train in the national capital of New Delhi.

In 2005, Kabita Pradhan of Angul district and Sanjukta Minz of Rourkela had joined the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) as women train operators.

Currently, Kabita is posted as the life supervisor after getting promotion in the Delhi Metro. She was the first Odia girl to have been appointed in the Delhi Metro where already 13 women were working as pilots. later, Sanjukta joined the job.

Kabita had started her work as a trainee train operator. After seven years, she was promoted to a senior post in 2012. Now, she is managing other train operators remaining at office.

Kabita and Sanjukta are the only two women from Odisha among many Odia male employees working in the Delhi Metro. After taking up the pilot service as their occupation, they have never felt insecure.

In reply to a media question about possibility of a metro train project in Odisha, Kabita said it is not possible for now anywhere in Odisha except twin city of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack in view of population and demand. However, future can never be predicted, she added.

Hailing from Athamallick of Angul district, she had pursued her high school education in Jharsuguda district’s Brajarajnagar where her father was working at the OPM. She became a pilot in metro train after completing her diploma in Electronics and Telecommunication in Dhenkanal.

Sanjukta joined the Delhi metro train service after completing her education in the Sambalpur University. She had pursued her studies at the Ispat High School in Rourkela.
