Two Maoists, including a woman, carrying cash rewards on their heads surrendered before police in Malkangiri district on Sunday.

The surrendered ultras were identified as Lake Punem and Kanna Madi.

While Lake was involved in some incidents of gun battle with security forces, Kanna allegedly killed several civilians and was also involved in IED explosions, police sources said.

Lake had joined the banned CPI (Maoist)  in April, 2018 and was carrying a cash reward of Rs 2 lakh on her head. She got fed up with the Maoist leaders’ gender discrimination for which she decided to quit the organisation. Women cadres are subjected to continuous physical and mental harassment by the leaders, she alleged.

On the other hand, Kanna had joined the Moaist fold in 2013 and was carrying a cash reward of Rs 4 lakh on his

head.

He had a change of mind witnessing the developmental activities in Swabhiman Anchal of Malkangiri by the State Government after the inauguration of Gurupriya Bridge by the Chief Minister, following which he decided to leave the organisation, police said.
