For the second time in less than a week, the house of a former corporator of the city was the target of vandalism when two persons hurled bombs late on Monday night.

“At least two bombs exploded on the boundary wall of the house of Nirupama Hathi, a former BJD corporator, around 11.30 pm on Monday and no one was injured in it,” said the Bidanasi police of the city, adding that the accused have been arrested.

Eyewitnesses said two persons came by a motorcycle hurled the bombs and escaped from the spot. Police sources said the motorcycle used by the accused has been impounded.

It may be mentioned that the same house was the target last week when at least four persons hurled stones at it breaking the windowpanes.

Incidentally, during both these attacks, present BJD corporator of the locality Itishree Behera was in the house of Nirupama giving an indication that the series attack on Nirupama’s house is fallout of umpteen number of violence that took place during the Municipality elections held on February 6 this year.

But poll watchers in the city are of the belief that an attempt is now being made to link the present attacks on Nirupama’s house as sequel to the Congress-BJD rivalry of Assembly elections in which a Congress sympathiser was allegedly thrashed by some BJD workers during the run-up to Assembly elections of April 17.
