Even as the Government claims to have taken many measures for development of farmers, farmers’ suicides allegedly due to crop failure are being reported at regular intervals in Balangir district.
According to reports, two farmers of the district attempted to commit suicide and were admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) on Friday. They are now undergoing treatment there.
Gupte Rana (28) of Kutumdola village under Balangir block had cultivated paddy in five acres of land and groundnut in another acre of land. However, his crops were damaged in brown grass hopper (Chakada pest) attack.
