A total of 2,66,854 employees were working in total 550 industrial organisations operating in the State by the year 2017-18, according to the information availed from the Labour Commissioner and the Employment Directorate.
Labour and Employees State Insurance Minister Sushant Singh informed this in the State Assembly in response to a question of BJP MLA Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday. The employees comprise 2,26,916 youths of Odisha and 39,893 from outside the State.
The Minister said the Industries Department has issued an order for execution of the job reservation for appointment of local youths in industrial organisations. As per the regulations, industrial units have to engage 90 per cent of unskilled and semiskilled workers, 60 per cent of skilled workers and 30 per cent of management employees from local population. However, there is no reservation for senior-level posts, the Minister said.
