With the completion of 340 cyclone shelters along the coast and financial arrangement for construction of 160 more shelters, the State Government has taken another bid to construct flood shelters in the flood-prone areas of the State.

Chairing a review meeting on restoration works in the worst-affected Ganjam district due to cyclone Phailin, Chief Secretary Jugal Kishore Mohapatra on Wednesday asked the Special Relief Commissioner Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra to identify 100 places in the first phase, besides preparing project plans for the construction of the shelters within seven days.

The meeting emphasised on installation of automatic rain recording stations at the gram panchayat level. At present, 177 rain recording stations are functioning in the State with most of them located at block headquarters.

Among others, Development Commissioner (DC) Injeti Srinivas and Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) UN Behera and many senior Government officials were present at the meeting.
