Even though the Bonded labour (Systems) Abolitions Act, 1976 lays emphasis on proper rehabilitation of rescued labourer by the district and State administrations, yet it is not done.
According to sources, the rehabilitation assistance proposal of 44 bonded labourers of Khaprakhol block is lying pending in the block and has not been submitted to DRDA, Balangir, in prescribed format with valid papers.
Moreover, even as the NHRC has directed the district administration to submit action taken report in rehabilitating the handicapped migrant labour Pitambar Bhoi of Jamchuan village of Khprakhol block, no steps have been taken for his rehabilitation so far.
The rehabilitation assistance proposal in respect of 157 bonded labourers of Balangir district is lying pending with State Panchyati Raj Department, Bhubaneswar for last one year, said sources.
