For the last 151 years it was providing quality education to students but only to the boys. But from the coming academic year, girls will be also eligible to study here and the process of co-education will begin, informed headmistress of the school Jayashree Dora.

The school has got a long history and achievement to its credit. Begun in the year 1852 as Anglo Vernacular School, it was named as Zilla School in the year 1864. After independence, it was again named after the famous freedom fighter Chandra Sekhar Behera.

The school has got enormous contribution for the socio economic development of the State as well as the entire country. Many of the old students are working in important positions all over the world including one in the PMO (Prime Minister’s Office) now. The school has produced a good number of politicians, teachers, doctors, engineers, social activists and bureaucrats etc during this long time period.

“The school had its own name and fame for providing quality education to the students. However, it was only boys who have been getting this opportunity. But henceforth, girls will also get the same benefit,” said headmistress Dora.

The State Government has permitted for co-education in this school with a noble aim. The infrastructure available is no doubt developed than other schools of the region. But girls were unable to get this developed pattern of teaching. Now onwards, they will also be eligible to avail this opportunity, the headmistress said further.
