As part of a nation-wide campaign of the BJP to fight for the rights of the farmers, the State unit on Friday announced to organise a fortnight-long Krishak Adhikar Padayatra from August 16 to 31.
Addressing a Press conference here, State BJP Kissan Morcha president Maheswar Sahoo said the Morcha members would hold the 15-day-long rally in support of implementation of a 15-point charter of rights for the farmers and highlight the anti-farmer policies of both the Congress led UPA Government at the Center and the BJD Government in the State.
He said that after completion of the Padayatra in grassroots level, the Morha would hold district level Adhikar Padayatra before all the Collectorates and submit memorandums to the District Collectors demanding implementation of the rights of the farmers.
The rights include profit of crops, purchase and bonus, security during disaster, availability of cheap resources, access to farmer friendly economic organizations and banks, subsidized inputs, land ownenership, irrigation to every field , genuine seeds and availability of fertilizer and pesticides, besides pension and treatment for disease etc.
Sahoo said that while as many as 2,000 farmers from Odisha would participate in the Delhi Kissan Adhikar rally to be held on October 4, as many as 200 Kissan delegates would attend the World Kissan Fair being organized by the Gujurat Government to be held on September 10 at Ahemadabad.
