The Commissionerate police (CP) have lodged cases against 140 persons in the twin city of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack for violating the Supreme Court’s directions on bursting of crackers.

Police have identified nearly 370 persons in the twin city for violating the rule of the apex court.

Taking strict action against the violators, the CP lodged cases against 140 persons for allegedly getting involved in bursting crackers before 8 pm and after 10 pm on Diwali on Wednesday.

Besides, a total fie of Rs 1.15 lakh was collected from 230 people for violating the rule, Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty informed.

However, notably, due to the restriction on sale of firecrackers, bursting of crackers came down considerably on Diwali this year.
