At least 12 cadres of a Maoist militia group of the Narayanpatna area belonging to Srikakulam-Koraput Divisional Committee under the Andhra-Odisha border Special Zonal Committee surrendered before police here on Sunday.

The ultras, identified as lengu Habika, Barsu Mandingi, Kameya Mandingi, Relli Mandingi and Subash Sirika of Nari Khilua village, Jaya Mandingi and Siman Miniaka of Godraguda village, Tisu Wateka and Wateka Sana of Kusulipeta and Mukuna Habika of Bagam and Samara Kulesika of Musalamunda, surrendered before Inspector General of Police, South Western Range, Jaswant Kumar Jethwa and Koraput SP Awinash Kumar.

“All of them had joined the Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangha (CMAS) in 2009 and later were actively assisting in the spread of CPI Maoist organisation and network in Narayanpatna area,” IG Jethwa told mediapersons here.

The IG said, “Due to their disillusionment with armed struggle and anti-tribal policies of the Maoist insurgents, these tribals decided to surrender and join the mainstream.”

He also informed that all the surrendered Maoists would be provided rehabilitation under the surrender policy of the State Government.
