As many as 12 shops in Jagatsinghpur district headquarters town including the ones dealing in garment, tailoring, shoe and Xerox, were sealed and a fine of Rs 60, 000 was collected from the shop owners allegedly for opening the shops during the Covid lockdown on Saturday.

The Jagatsinghpur civic body authority acting on a tip-off, raided Jaya Sriram Cloth Store and Abhiram Cloth Store on the town outskirts. They were making transactions from back door. The municipality authority imposed a fine against shop owners and sealed the shop until further order.

Meanwhile reports said that as the festive season is underway, the garment shops not only in Jagatsinghpur town but in many rural areas in the district were doing business clandestinely.

However, it was not possible on parts of administration to conduct raids at all locations, added sources.
