11 K'pada errant medicine shops slapped show-cause

PNS

The District Drugs Inspector Manswini Biswal has recently issued so-cause notices to at least 11 chemist shops out of 12, which were raided by a Drugs Controller team on April 23 last. During the raid, many irregularities in the shops had come to the fore.

Biswal has asked the chemists shops to submit satisfactory explanation pertaining to the irregularities found within a month. If the chemists shops fail to submit a satisfactory report, then stringent action will be initiated against them, said official sources.

Notably, Drugs Controller personnel on last week of April had conducted a surprise raid at the medicine shops at Kendrapada township, Pattamundai and its adjoining areas. The surprise raid was conducted under the leadership of Assistant Drugs Controller of Bhubaneswar Harmohan Mohanty. There had been an allegation against the drug vendors related to selling of sub standard medicines, sample medicines and false billing.

According to sources, several medicine stores in the district have been opened allegedly by violating the guidelines. In order to open a medicine store, a person having pharmacy qualification can apply for the licence and registration. Besides, a pharmacist has to work in the shop for providing medicine prescribed by the doctors. But these guidelines have been thrown to wind by most drug sellers.

When contacted, District Drug Inspector Biswal stated that more raids would be conducted on the shops ahead and appropriate action against the offenders would be taken.
