10 Maoists surrender in M'giri

PNS

Ten Maoists, including five hardcore ones, surrendered before the Malkangiri police here on Wednesday. Even an area commander Ramesh Madkami (25) involved in 14 criminal cases surrendered with his wife Vijaya Hantala, said SDPO Shiba Subramaniam.

The ultras working in the Maoists’ Kudumulugumma area committee in the district were involved in several incidents like attack on security forces, landmine explosions, blasts, ambush and extortions, the SDPO said.

The other Maoists who gave up arms were Dalima Khillo alias Karuna (21), Nande Padiami alias Sujata (19), Deba Madkami (23), Soma Madkami (21), Dulla Madkami (21), Bhima Madkami (35), T Chittibabu (25) and Raju Hantala (29), he said.

Three women cadres among these Maoists revealed that they left the organisation due to humiliation and torture by senior cadres. They felt that the rebels have deviated from the Maoist ideology and are indulging in loot, extortion and atrocities on innocent people instead of working for the poor and oppressed, the police said.

Notably, 65 Maoists have surrendered before the police in Malkangiri district in the last three months. These continuous surrenders would morally affect the ultras for persuading other people to join their party, said the police.
