A patient died and another was injured when a gas cylinder leaked triggering fear among the patients and their relatives on Saturday at the MKCG Medical College Hospital here.
The deceased was identified as Madhavi Pradhan (55) of Kunarpur village under Sadar police station. She had been admitted in the neuro surgery ward of the hospital five days back after she received injury on head for falling off the roof of her house.
Her condition was critical on Friday as she felt problem in breathing. A hospital staff on duty had brought an oxygen cylinder to give oxygen to Madhavi. But when the nub was opened, it suddenly produced a bursting sound and the gas began leaking.
Soon, the fear-struck patients and their relatives ran helter-skelter apprehending some mishap in the hospital. A woman was injured when she fell off her bed as a stampede like situation took place.
As the news spread, doctors and hospital authorities rushed to the spot and tried to bring the situation under control.
