Students, educationists and civil society members held a dharna before the Sub-Collector office pressing for converting Kuchinda College to a Government college. They submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Sub Collector of Kuchinda in this regard.
The State Government had decided to convert 11 colleges situated in ITDA blocks including Kuchinda to Government colleges. The proposal was also approved in the Cabinet. But nothing could be materialised so far.
On May 23, the Cityzen Forum held a discussion with the Sub Collector of Kuchinda regarding the Cabinet decision and to expedite the process of coversion to Government college. "When nothing happened in this regard, we prefered to sit in Dharna," said Pritam Pruseth, the convenor of the Citizen Forum.
The forum further alleged that the Bamara College under their sub division is yet to have degree classes in science. The only science college under Janankira block is a self financing one. "Hence we demand before the State Government to give justice to the students of the ITDA blocks and other backward areas to at least have one Government college, with all streams," said forum convenor Jitendriya\ Dhurua.
