Even after extension of the deadline for re-enforcement of the new Motor Vehicles (MV) Act in the State for three more months from Sunday, there will be no exemption of penalty for violating traffic rules in Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Twin City.
Challans would be issued to vehicle owners if found violating traffic rules, informed Commissioner of Police Sudhanshu Sarangi on Saturday.
If the violators cannot pay penalty on the spot, they can deposit the amount at the Commissionerate Police office counter later. If anyone is found floating the norms by dodging the challan, the penalty would be added to the vehicle owner’s name at the RTO.
“The violators will have to pay fine with interest when the violator visits the RTO to pay tax or renewal or to avail fitness certificate,” Sarangi told reporters.
Police officials have been asked not to hold unnecessary arguments with the violators during checking at various points, he said.
For transparency, the Commissionerate police is issuing the challans through e-machine, he said, adding, “No manual challan is being issued for traffic rule violations.”
“Besides, our efforts are on to bring all the traffic areas under CCTV coverage and on-duty officers to carry body camera during checking. It will help us investigate into allegations of police excesses if levelled against police during frisking,” Sarangi said.
Even if the police personnel deployed for checking do not catch the offenders on the spot, the violators would also have to pay penalty. “Challan will be issued to the violators at their addresses after verifying the CCTV footages,” he warned.
