‘State taking false credit on WSHGs’ business’

The Congress on Sunday came down heavily upon the BJD Government for its false claim of bettering the economic wellbeing of women through the Mission Shakti initiative.

In a Press meet, former Minister and Bijayalaxmi Sahoo and party State spokesperson Prasant Satpathy said that in 2019-20 the businesses of the WSHGs amounted to Rs 1,412 crore.

“If the profit margin in a higher side is calculated at 20%, it comes to Rs 282.40 crore. The number of SHGs participating in the businesses was 20,449. Thus, each SHG got Rs1.38 lakh. Again if one SHG consists of an average 12 members, each one got Rs 11,500 per year and Rs 958 per month and Rs 32 per day,” they said.

Similarly, they calculated each SHG member’s annual income at Rs 5,791, Rs 482 per month and Rs 16 per day in 2020-21. So, it can be seen well how a member is meeting her family’s basic minimum requirements with such a scanty income, they argued.
