The BJD members under the leadership of Balangir Municipality Chairman Santosini Behera staged a demonstration before the Collectorate here on Saturday, protesting the apathy of the Central Government towards the Balangir bypass.
The members also criticised the politicians for vying for taking credit for the Rs 190 crore for the project recently approved by the Central Government.
Notably, the sanctioned amount was halted as the Standing Financial Council asked the officials to justify a high price quoted for agriculture land to be acquired for the road and the officials couldn’t offer any logical argument.
The agitators also submitted a memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through the district administration demanding early release of funds for the project. Among others, Dhirendra Banchhor, Mahendra Bag and Kailash Mohanty were present.
