‘Prof Mittal’s wrongdoings enough’ --Sambalpur intellectuals demand SU VC’s ouster

NIMAI CHARAN SAHU

The intellectuals here, including the members of

Sambalpur Nagarik Kalyan Samity, a former VC and a former MLA on

Saturday came down heavily on the activities of the Vice Chancellor of

Sambalpur University.

The monopoly, autocratic attitude, corruption, illegal activities and

financial bungling by VC Sanjib Mittal have brought a bad name for the

university in the national level, they said.

“There will be a time when no student will come to the university for

taking admission,” they told in a media conference here.

Dr AP Padhi, the former VC of Berhampur University and the former

Professor and HoD of Political Science of SU said that VC Prof Mittal

is violating all the Acts and statues of the university for his personal

gains.  It is humiliating for a VC to continue in a job by getting bail from

the High Court, Prof Padhi said further.

At the same time, he expressed surprise when a VC supplied all forged

documents and information while applying for the post and got it also.

Former MP (LS) Bhabani Shankar Hota gave details of the illegal works

and misdeeds committed by the VC from the day one he joined till date.

But all of them lamented that not only the VC is getting support from

police, State Government, Higher Education Department, and

Chancellor’s office because of his RSS affiliation, but also he is getting

undue support from the High Court.

Durga Padhi, advocate and former syndicate member, narrated how the

High Court Judges are supporting the VC and his illegal activities.

“He has got conditional bail from the High Court. But he is violating

all the conditions of the court, and still the court is tolerating all

these,” Padhi said.

“How did an ordinary businessman manufacturing Atta and Maida get a

DLitt degree from the university during the last convocation? It has

raised many eyebrows among the intellectuals of the country. Further,

the convocation itself was illegal as it was not done as per

university Act,” both Padhi and Hota said, showing the statues.

They further informed about burning of old books from the library,

burning of trees from the herbal garden inaugurated by APJ Abdul

Kalam, slang language used to the women employees and so many other

ugly and unhealthy things by Mittal.

“It is high time the State Government and the Chancellor’s office

acted and saved the university from the hands of an undeserving man as

VC,” said former MLA Dr Raseswari Panigrahi.
