‘Populist’ Budget: UCCI

PNS

The Utkal Chamber of Commerce & Industry (UCCI) stated that the Union Interim Budget presented by acting Finance Minister Piyush Goyal in Parliament on Friday was, “as anticipated, a populist budget” ahead of general elections.

The UCCI analysed the Budget provisions after viewing the Finance Minister’s speech on television. Leading members of the chamber, including its president Ramesh Mahapatra, made a detailed review of the Budget proposals.

The chamber described the Budget as “populist” obviously because most of its proposals are aimed at welfare of various sections of people with the BJP-led Central Government keeping an eye to the fast-approaching elections.
