‘Patients must follow what doctors say’

NISHAN PATTANAIK

Narsingha Chandra Patra (Silu) and Debasmita Patra of Jeypore were battling with Covid for the past 30 days. After testing positive for the virus, the brother and sister duo was first home quarantined but was shifted to hospital after deterioration of their health.

As Debasmita is already discharged, she is recovering at home sincelast week while Narasingha is out of ICU now. He recently shared a health update on social media. He thanked his well-wishers and apprised them that he was now on a road to recovery. Narasingha was admitted on May 11 and discharged on June 7. He had been in the ICU for more than 17 days struggling for life at the Jeypore Covid Hospital.   He said that while he was in the ICU bed he was just praying to God and the group call with his brother-in-law Gupteswar Satpathy and near and dear continued to give him strength.

His relatives at a time thought to shift him to Vizag or Bhubaneswar but by the advice of his brother- in- law and others, his treatment was continued in Jeypore. Nrusingha advised the Covid patients not to lose confidence and just follow the instructions by the doctors and other staff.

He revealed that his lung infection was healing and he had been advised by the doctors to not talk much but he could connect to his family and friends through calls and text messages. He added that he had been asked to divert his mind by revelling in enjoyable stuff to accelerate his recovery.

He added that much like a toddler who takes baby steps while learning to walk; he had to embark upon his new life slowly and gradually. He was filled with gratitude and thanked everyone for praying for his speedy recovery.
