Social activist and BJD Women wing State president Subasini Jena spent the New Year day with the distressed children living in Maguni Charan Balashram at Mathani under Basta block. Not only did she cut cakes with the underprivileged children, she also had lunch with them.
“On the eve of New Year generally we spent a lot of money congratulating each other in various ways. But here are the children who are in utter distress. They lost their parents and being poverty stricken they were deprived of basic amenities. Although the school management, after they are admitted to the Balashram, is trying to provide them basic facilities, yet it is imperative on our part to come forward and help them,” observed Subasini.
Several guests including school representatives and local elected representatives spoke in a meeting which was organized on the occasion.
Ex-MP and BJD district president RK Jena said, “There are many destitute children who are struggling to survive, let alone get clothes and education. A small generosity, I believe, can bring in a big change in their lives. Let’s join hands in extending help to them. Let them not feel they are neglected and deprived of basic facilities.”
The Balashram at Mathani having class from I to X has 125 students with residential facilities. School management president Bijay Singh, Saroj Mohanty, Anil Mohanty, Mamatarani Sit, Dillip Dandpat and Jayprakash Behera were among several speakers who addressed.
