DOUP seeks proper assessment of damages

The Dakhin Odisha Unnayan Parishad (DOUP) on Sunday alleged that the State Government has completely failed in tackling the Cyclone Titli in districts of Ganjam, Gajapati and Rayagada.

“The Chief Secretary had been telling media about the possible cyclonic storm Titli and claiming that the State Government was fully prepared to ensure least damage and zero casualty.

However, the reality is different now. It is very disappointing that about 30 people have died by the impact of Titli in the three districts,” said DOUP convenor Rabi Rath in a statement.

He said the Government’s claim of shifting 3 lakh people was not at all true as there was no information about shifted people made public. Officers from district level to the Chief Secretary made the claim only to take credit.

He criticized Minister Surjya Narayan Patra for saying that he was unaware of the death of 16 people due to landslide in Baraghara village in Gajapati district. Rath said three persons were killed as walls collapsed over him at different places in Kashinagar and Mohana blocks and six persons washed away in Sorada block.

Rath demanded that the State Government provide relief to all the affected families and make a proper assessment of loss of human lives and damages and provide adequate compensation.
