‘Govt’s zero casualty claim proves false’

PNS

The Congress on Saturday alleged that the State Government’s claim of ‘zero casualty’ in the Cyclone Titli and subsequent floods is totally false and said 23 to 25 persons are already reported to have been washed away in floods during the last two days.

“The State Government is misleading people by giving false information on damages caused by the Titli and subsequent floods. While 23 to 25 persons have been washed away, people have lost houses and cattle in many areas. The claim of zero casualty is totally false,” said PCC media cell chief Satya Prakash Nayak.

Besides, Nayak alleged that the State Government has always failed to make follow-ups for availing cyclone and flood-related assistances from the Centre. Till 2013, the State had placed demands of Rs 11,518.45 crore and availed Rs 798.36 crore from the Centre. However, it didn’t make any follow-up to avail the rest of demanded assistance, he said.

He demanded that the Government make proper assessment of loss of human lives and damages of properties and crops. He too demanded that the Government provided interest-free loans and premium-free insurance coverage to farmers.
