The Freethought Party of India (FPI) in association with the AMOFOI on Sunday held a seminar on Mikhail Gorbachev’s distinct contributions to mankind.
The seminar was chaired by AMOFOI president Manas Jena. Rationalist leader Sundhansu Dhada, HRO, Brahmapur, president Basanti Acharya, MS Yadav of BSP and Swapna Bijayini of AMOFOI spoke.
Introducing the topic of the discussion and throwing light on the greatness of the last Soviet Union President Gorbachev who passed away in Moscow on August 30 at the age of 91, FPI general secretary B Ramchandra CST Voltaire pinpointed that Gorbachev was a leader of unique statesmanship, and because of his love for human freedom and tolerance of opposition views, he worked for ending the Cold War.
He had the mission to prevent wastage of huge public money running into trillions of US Dollars and diverting the same in providing standard houses to all the people of the world. Indeed, he was for planned parenthood and no wonder, he and his wife Raisa were satisfied with a daughter-centric one-child family, told Voltaire.
Dhada and Yadav regretted that the good work done by Gorbachev was not carried forward by the subsequent leaders of Russia and the US.
Bijayini praised Gorbachev as he had no love for dictatorial or repressive power.
Jena said that the problems of mankind are huge from nation to nation and in this regard right public opinion has to be created. Among others, Basanti Acharya spoke.
