Focusing on various emerging areas of research on economic science, Prof Satya P Das of Indiana University, Bloomington, USA, was of the opinion that economics research scholars should concentrate more on universally-applicable research works. He was addressing students in a seminar at the Ravenshaw University here on Tuesday.
Speaking about neuro-economics, behavioral economics and information economics, Prof Das also discussed about different aspects of a credible research and expressed concern over possible interdisciplinary ramifications for Indian researchers. Prof Das’ remarks came within days after economist Abhijit Banerjee won this year’s Nobel Prize for Economics.
India-born, 58-year-old MIT Economics professor Banerjee won the prize along with wife Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer for their experimental approaches in alleviating global poverty. Prof Banerjee had been working on this project for last 20 years and his team has tried offering solutions towards alleviation of poverty through development economics.
Prof Das’ seminar lecture in the Economics Department of Ravenshaw University was attended by eminent economists of the State. In fact, this week’s lecture was the 11th seminar lecture of the department in the current academic session and was successfully held under the supervision of seminar advisor Dr Asis Kumar Senapati.
