A book ‘Life on Earth and Beyond-the essence of Karma’ written by Prof Kanhu Charan Patra, Civil Engineering Department, NIT-Rourkela, was inaugurated by Director NIT-Rourkela Prof K Umamaheshwar Rao in presence of former ED I/c RSP BB Mohanty, former Rotary District Governor FC Mohanty and many more dignitaries of the steel city.

Prof Rao praising Prof Patra for writing a book on spirituality, though he is a technocrat, said the book will help every one as it teaches the significance of karma in life. So, everyone should go through it, he said.

"A survey has shown that towards the end of life, most of us are not satisfied with what we have done in this life and regret it. At the old age, time and energy have almost run out. So, we must learn on how to decide our priorities in life through our free will," he further opined.

"The second confusion is, what is the meaning of death and what happens to us after the physical death of the body. Whether there are exoplanets that shelter us after death, how is life in those exoplanets? The third confusion is what is meaning of karma i.e. what to do in life and the fourth confusion is on rebirths, whether karma has the carryover or is compensating in nature and so on and the last confusion is on ‘what to do’ so that we can get rid of the cycles of rebirth. Most of the above confusions can be addressed if one goes through this book," said Prof Patra.
