The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), Odisha, in a letter to the State Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management on August 22, has urged him to declare the Nuankhai as holiday under the Negotiable Instrument Act.
UFBU convenor Raghubir Das pointed out that Nuankhai is one of the most important festivals of western Odisha observed in every household. This year, it is going to be observed on September 1.
In the past, Nuankhai has also been declared as a holiday under the Negotiable Instrument Act. Considering the significance of the occasion, the UFBU has requested the Minister to declare Nuankhai as a holiday under this Act
