‘Crimes against women rising in BJD regime’

PNS

The Congress on Friday alleged that Odisha is now in forefront in crimes against women with 113 women in every one lakh are facing all kinds of atrocities. The State police have only 10% women representation.

Addressing a Press conference here, party spokespersons Satya Prakash Nayak and Manoranjan Dash said the rates of investigation and conviction in these cases are very low in the State. Only during the elections, the ruling BJD recites ‘Maa and Maa’ but its Government has utterly failed to protect women.

They said the recent report of the National Crime Records Bureau has exposed the misrule of the Naveen Patnaik Government as Odisha tops for continuous seven years in the crimes against women, especially making women undressed with criminal motive.

“In 2019 when the entire country witnessed a decrease in crimes against women because of the Covid wave, Odisha witnessed 10% spurt in such cases. Not only were women of the State cheated in cybercrimes, they were also subjected to pornography and morphing of their images,” said the Congress leaders.
