‘Covid-worst-hit Ganjam district neglected'

PNS

Members of the Bharatiya Bikash Parishad led by its Odisha unit president Surendra Panigrahi staged a peaceful demonstration here on Thursday against the State Government’s “step-motherly” attitude towards Ganjam, discriminative and dictatorial attitude of the district Collector and failure of the State Government to contain Covid-19 spread.

The Parishad displayed the photographs of all MLAs and MPs of the district for public view and tried to portray how these leaders of Ganjam have no sense of responsibilities to meet the people of the district in distress at these crucial hours of Covid-19 pandemic. The Parishad demanded the resignation of the CM and all the elected representatives of the district.

Addressing the members, Panigrahi alleged that the interest and overall development of Ganjam district, particularly in the most important sectors like education and healthcare, have deliberately been neglected.

He also criticised the indiscriminate and frequent lockdown and shutdown of the district without proper and meaningful planning on the sheer pretext of containing Covid-19 pandemic by the Ganjam district Collector.

The State Government and the district administration have utterly failed in controlling and containing the spiraling growth of Corona patients in the district which has been going unabated in spite of an array of measures initiated by the district administration during last 4 months. For the fault of the State Government, the Ganjam district is being defamed, he slammed.

He also alleged that, the CM neither has visited a single time to Ganjam district to meet the people to share their sorrows, nor a single meeting of Disasters Management Committee exclusively for Ganjam district was held. Even the Corona suspected patients kept in various quarantine centers are deprived of getting adequate drinking water round the clock, he alleged further.

The newly elected MPs and MLAs of Ganjam district have been sidelined both by the State machinery and the district administration in the current dictatorial BJD regime, he added.

The first phase Central assistance of Rs 802 crore which the State Government received from the Center is being misappropriated and looted in the name of Covid-19, the Parishad alleged and demanded that, the Central assistance spent by the State should be audited thoroughly and should be made public.

The members burnt the effigy of the CM and all the newly elected representatives of the district.
