The first ‘lost Cell Phone Unit’ of the State was launched here at the Bhopal crime branch by the Bhopal Zone IG Upendra Jain. A special unit with the aim of tracking lost and stolen cell phones was launched by the Bhopal district police on Sunday.

While speaking with the media persons Inspector General of Police Bhopal Zone Upendra Jain told that it is a special unit with specially trained police personnel to track the cell phone.

The aim of the unit is to provide a dedicated team to solve the increasing number of cell phone lost cases. The tracking would be done across the country and necessary steps would be taken to bring the stolen cell phone after tracking.

Jain was honest in admitting that in case of cell phone lost case the police personnel at the police stations are little reluctant and they are not trained or  specialized in the cell phone lost cases which has lead to the creation of the ‘lost Cell Phone Unit’.

Those people who have lost their mobile phone could visit MP Nagar crime branch and register their complaint. The form could also be downloaded from bhopalpolice.com website.

Replying to a query Jain told that it is a cyber operation but instead of cyber crime cell crime branch will monitor the unit and handle the issues at its end. Jain told that once the cell phone is found the owner would be contacted and informed.

Explaining the limitation Jain told that after the cell phone is lost it should be functional which means that the person having the cell phone should operate the cell phone other wise it would become impossible to track the cell phone. The Additional Superintendent of Police (crime branch) Shailendra Singh Chouhan told that a team of three dedicated police personnel will work for the unit.

The three members are selected based on their skills and knowledge of technology and past experience in the field, he added.
