The youngsters of the city are learning to make eco-friendly idols of lord Ganesha to observe Ganesh Chaturthi.

The workshop Aao Banien Apne Haatho Apne Shri Ganesh is being organised by Narmada Samagra at its premises, Shivaji Nagar. Further the workshop began from August 22 and as many as 3500 children have participated in the workshop learning to make eco-friendly Ganesha idols.

Through this workshop, the people are urged to install the eco-friendly Ganesha idols at their homes to observe the Ganesh Chaturthi this year. Made up of environment-friendly materials and coloured with the herbal components, the idol of lord Ganesha will be worshipped at homes this time.

During the workshop, the participants are taught to prepare lord Ganesha out of paper and reusable materials. The participants will also decorate their lord Ganesha idol with natural colours and natural accessories.

According to the members of Narmada Samagra, the idols are made up of Plaster Of Paris (POP) and other chemicals. They are also coloured with artificial elements to make them look pretty and beautiful but at the same time these chemicals prove to be hazardous for the environment. The chemicals get mixed with water after the immersion of the idol it could prove to be harmful for public health as well. Further like every year, this year too, the Narmada Samagra is carrying out a campaign urging the masses to prepare eco friendly idols of lord Ganesha. To make the masses aware the members of Narmada Samagra would visit public places like DB Mall, Minal Residency and

Shalimar Enclave and would also visit the schools. The body has already given training to almost 5,000 people at 37 places till now including Hoshangabad, Indore, and Jabalpur.
