The wooden handicraft workshop ‘Srijan’ concluded here on Tuesday at Madhya Pradesh State Tribal Museum with a lot of enthusiasm. During the 15 day long workshop, the participants learned to carve out their perceptions in wooden form just like the artists of various tribes used to do in older times. The workshop majorly focused on the art and pottery of State’s tribes including Gond, Baiga, Kaul and Bhil.
Throughout the workshop, the participants learned different art forms. The participants learned to carve the portraits of gods and goddesses. The participants also carved out stories related to those gods and goddesses. Interestingly, there is no proper body shape of figures in this art. From geometrical shapes to abstract, the artists can figure out their work belonging to their perception.
The participants gave final touches to their creations on Tuesday. They have carved out figures of animals and humans which are abstract and modern art forms. The beautiful carvings look eye pleasing to the visitors.
The artists from different tribes also visited on Tuesday and appreciated the works of participants. The artists like Hari Singh, Bajari Singh from Baiga tribe, Brish Sen Kaul from Kaul tribe, Dhokal Singh, Basant Kumar, Shiv Prasad, Sukhnandi Vyam from Gond and Amar Singh Khuman Singh and Gangaram from Bhil tribes visisted the concluding day of the workshop.
Notably, the wooden craft is one of the ancients craft and also depicts about the art that began with the human race. The stories of daily life and happenings in the surroundings were carved on wood and this is how wooden craft all began.
The visitors were overwhelmed with the art pieces showcased at the gallery.
