'Women need not visit PS to lodge complaint'

PNS

State police department has directed to all the police stations in the State to take immediate action for complaints received at the State woman helpline and further informed that the complainant woman should not be asked to visit police station for lodging her complaint.

Director General of Police Nanden Dube on Thursday directed that the given direction should be strictly followed without fail by the concerned police stations and police personnel responsible for investigation and further emphasised that complaints received at the woman help line number 1090 should be dealt with utmost priority and should be registered with priority.  The local police station must investigate the complaints provided by the woman help lines with supreme priority and grave seriousness.

State’s police officer said it was highly unwarranted to call the complainant to the police station to lodge her complaint and this practice should not be followed and stopped while investigating the cases received from the woman helpline as it was against very basic aims and objective which the helpline number was initiated.

Nanden Dube further said that respective police stations should be informed regarding the complaints received by the woman helpline and it should be updated with the progress in the investigation during the solving of the case. Additional Superintendent of Police and Nodal Officer should maintain the complaints received by the woman helpline and should maintain updated record of the investigation. The records have to be checked by the Superintendent of Police, he added.
