Waqf Board chairman, CEO at loggerheads

Staff Reporter

The Madhya Pradesh Waqf Board (MPWB) chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) are at loggerheads causing financial and administrative losses to the Board. The board meetings are also not taking place due to the warring top heads of the institution.

The last meeting of the Board was held on December 29, 2014. Many important decisions that need Board’s approval are pending for past ten months.

While talking to The Pioneer, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nisar Ahmed said, “I always work for the welfare of the Board. I have rescued properties to the tune of Rs 200 to Rs 500 crore from the encroachers and brokers. Besides, whatever decisions taken by me are in the interest of the board and I have full powers to take any decision.”

He further stated that whoever has problems with the decisions taken by him in the Board should go to court instead of moving to offices of newspapers. Notably, the CEO has several times in the past written to the Chairman regarding convening the Board’s meeting.

On the contrary, MPWB Chairman Shokat Mohammed Khan said, “If the CEO is so much committed for the Board, then why he had written to the Government wide letter number 380, dated August 21, 2014, urging not to send any files of the Board to him. Why he never visited the office of the Board in his over one and half year of assuming office.”

Khan further said, “Whenever the CEO has written me for convening Board’s meeting, I have written him to prepare agenda of the meeting that he never did. I replied to all of his correspondences in few days only, while he took months to reply my letters.”

He claimed that the CEO has taken many controversial decisions without approval of the Board and that is why he is hesitant in convening the Board’s meeting.

Whatever be the result of the war of two big wigs of the board one good news pour in that finally the date for Board meeting has been fixed and if all goes well than the board would meet on November 9.
