For the first time in Madhya Pradesh’s politics, the entry of Aam Admi Party (AAP) and Asaduddin Owaisi’s All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has surprised many.

Aam Admi Party (AAP) has registered its presence in the civic body polls by winning the Mayor post in Singrauli Municipal Corporation. The results for the first phase of civic polls in Madhya Pradesh including 11 municipal corporations were announced on Sunday. AAP has won one major and 17 coporators’ elections.

Besides winning Singrauli mayor’s post, AAP has won corporators elections in ward 5 and 12 in Dabra, ward 1 and 10 in Pichhore and ward 9 in Bhitarwar. Besides, AAP won ward 3 of Alampur (Bhind), ward 9 of Porsa (Morena) and ward 14 of Sheopur, ward 5 of Vijayraghogarh (Katni), ward 27 of Shajapur, ward 3 of Orchha, one in Naigarhi (Rewa) and five in Singrauli.

Besides, AIMIM candidate Shakira Bilal, won the election from ward number-14 of the Khandwa Municipal Corporation by defeating her nearest Congress rival Noorjahan Begum by a margin of 285 votes.

In Jabalpur, AIMIM candidate from ward no 49-Saman Parveen Mateen and ward 51, Samreen Qureshi, were adjudged winners.  In Burhanpur, BJP won the mayoral election, but with a thin margin, as AIMIM and AAP candidates played spoilsport.

Since, urban boy polls in Madhya Pradesh were semi-finals for the next assembly elections, the results suggest that the 2023 assembly elections would not be easy for the ruling BJP. Besides Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Samajwadi Party (SP), AAP and AIMIM might also play an important role in the elections.
